Sacristans


"Some of them had charge of the liturgical vessels, tallying them as they were brought in and taken out. Others were appointed over the utensils and all the sacred vessels, as well as over the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the frankincense, and the spices." - 1 Chronicles 9:28-29
  • Sacristan Role Description

    Sacristans make sure that the priest, deacon, ministers, and people have what they need to perform the Rites of the Church. Sacristans set up the sacred vessels, missals, liturgical books, announcements, and prayers of the faithful prior to mass. Sacristans assure that altar servers and ministers are in the right place at the right time during the liturgy.

  • Requirements - Appointed Position

    This is an appointed position. Lead sacristans submit names to the Director of Liturgy for appointment.


    The requirements of the Sacristan are:

    • Sacristans MUST have strong knowledge of every liturgical position and preferrably experience serving in all  roles. 
    • Registered Member of Prince of Peace, St. Gabriel, or St. Nicholas.
    • Fully initiated Roman Catholic (received Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist)
    • At least 21 years old (or younger only with permission of the pastor). 
    • If married, must be a validly married in the Catholic Church by a Priest or Deacon.
    • Participating Catholic (attends Mass every Sunday and make regular confession).
    • Attend required trainings as scheduled.
    • A minister can serve at multiple prishes if they are trained in each parish they serve at.
