  • About

Fr. Phil graduated from Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon and was ordained June 12, 2004 for the Archdiocese of Seattle. He just celebrated his twentieth anniversary at his last assignment at Our Lady of Fatima parish in Seattle. He has served in various parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Seattle including several parishes and missions in Lewis County and Pacific County and Oak Harbor and Coupeville on Whidbey Island.

--"I believe our God loves us intensely and gently and I try to convey this theme in my preaching and way of living. I look forward to our working together to spread the Good News on the Kitsap Peninsula."

What is a parochial vicar you might ask; "A parochial vicar is a priest assigned by his archbishop to a parish or parish family to assist a pastor in the care of the faithful. Parochial vicars are priests who render their services in pastoral ministry as co-workers with the pastor in common counsel and endeavor with him and also under his authority.” (Code of Canon Law, c. 545 §1)

Gil Pesqueira

Deacon

Parish Family 52

(360) 876-2762

  • About

Ordained on All Saints’ Day in 2008 by Archbishop Allen Vigneron at Christ the Light Cathedral for the Diocese of Oakland, this deacon serves the Church with humility and a heart for service. He does not claim the titles of theologian or saint, but seeks simply to serve God and those in need with faithfulness and generosity.

With the approval of Archbishop Etienne, he began serving the staff and parishioners of St. Gabriel in March 2024 and now has the joy of ministering across all three parishes of Parish Family 52.

He is grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside parishioners in worship, service, and pastoral care.

Outside of parish ministry, he values time spent with family and is committed to ongoing study and preparation for Church projects and personal spiritual growth.

He remains deeply thankful for God’s many blessings and for the loving support and sacrifices of his family, which make his ministry possible. It is a privilege for him to serve the people of Parish Family 52.

Pete Freeman

Deacon

Parish Family 52

360-876-2762

  • About

Deacon Pete Freeman was ordained a Permanent Deacon in 2016 for the Diocese of Covington, Kentucky. He and his wife, Tess, moved to Port Orchard from Northern Kentucky in May 2025 to be closer to family. With the approval of Archbishop Etienne, Deacon Pete was assigned to Parish Family 52 in October 2025.

Deacon Pete currently serves primarily at St. Gabriel, while also assisting at Masses at Prince of Peace. As he continues to settle into parish life in Western Washington, he looks forward to becoming more involved in the Men of Faith ministry and supporting OCIA.

Pete and Tess are the parents of three children, grandparents to fifteen grandchildren, and great‑grandparents to three. Family life remains central to their vocation and discernment.

What Deacon Pete appreciates most about Parish Family 52 is the rich diversity of cultures and traditions that make up the community. He often reflects on the image of Christ revealed through the many faces gathered at Mass, seeing in them the living Body of Christ.

Having previously experienced parish restructuring in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, he is hopeful and confident that Partners in the Gospel will strengthen unity and mission over time.

Deacon Pete’s prayer is that Parish Family 52 continues to grow with open hearts, shared listening, and active participation, becoming a strong witness to faith beyond parish walls. He looks forward to getting to know parishioners more personally and welcomes a friendly greeting after Mass.

  • About

Patrick Sharkey serves as Director of Operations for Parish Family 52, supporting the day‑to‑day and long‑term operations of the parish family in close collaboration with the pastor and school leadership.

He joined St. Nicholas in 2021 as a Pastoral Associate Administrator and now oversees operations across all campuses, including finances, facilities, human resources, technology, and communications. Patrick works to steward parish resources responsibly, support staff and volunteers, and help unify operations in accordance with Archdiocesan guidelines.

Originally from Eastern Washington, Patrick was raised in Catholic schools and has long considered faith a central gift in his life. His love for the Church led him to Franciscan University, where he initially pursued theology before discerning a call to serve the Church through leadership and business.

After beginning his career in technology and finance, Patrick felt a gradual but persistent call to ministry, which eventually led him into retreat and parish life. He is married and the father of six children, and he and his family live in Puyallup.

Patrick is deeply grateful to serve the Church and finds particular meaning in parish ministry, where faith is lived and shared in everyday life. As Parish Family 52 continues to grow, he is hopeful that both parishioners and staff will encounter Christ more deeply, grow in prayer, and feel supported, known, and empowered in their callings. He also hopes to foster a healthy, collaborative work environment where ministry can flourish.

Outside of work, Patrick considers himself a small‑town soul at heart. He enjoys long bike rides, board games, meaningful conversation, and the quiet beauty of fields and open spaces. His spirituality is rooted in the Carmelite tradition, and he continues to pursue ongoing formation and spiritual direction as part of his own faith journey.

Frank Matanane

P.A. For Administration
Parish Family 52

(360) 228-7000

  • About

Frank Matanane serves as Parish Administrator for St. Gabriel and Prince of Peace Catholic Churches, joining the parish staff in October 2022.

Prior to parish ministry, Frank spent more than twenty years in retail leadership, working his way up from entry‑level sales to store and regional leadership roles with companies such as Future Shop, CompUSA, Best Buy, and PetSmart. His professional background includes training, operations management, team development, and organizational leadership—skills that now serve the Church in a new and deeply meaningful way. He has also stepped up to direct Technology and Communications for the Parish Family.

Although Frank never envisioned himself working for the Church, a renewed faith journey and years of parish involvement at St. Gabriel gradually led him there. After returning more fully to the Catholic faith in 2013, Frank became actively engaged in parish life, serving in various volunteer roles and serving on the strategic planning commision.

When encouraged to apply for the Parish Administrator role, he discerned the call carefully and discovered that serving the Church was both unexpected and profoundly fulfilling.

Frank has lived in Washington since 1989 and comes from a military family with roots in Guam. Much of his upbringing was spent living abroad on military bases, experiences that shaped his appreciation for community, adaptability, and service.

Today, much of Frank’s time is devoted to parish life and caring for family, grounding his work in prayer and trust in God’s guidance.

As Parish Family 52 continues to grow, Frank is excited and hopeful about the opportunities ahead. He recognizes the challenges of bringing together multiple campuses with distinct cultures and traditions, yet believes deeply that the Holy Spirit is already at work in this transition.

Frank is grateful to serve alongside a dedicated staff and parish community united in mission—to serve God and His people—and looks forward to what the Lord will accomplish as the parish family moves forward together in faith.

Gloria Rosario

P.A. For Stewardship

Parish Family 52

(360) 228-7001

  • About

Gloria Rosario serves as Pastoral Associate for Stewardship for Parish Family 52, where she helps foster a culture of generosity, hospitality, and shared mission. She describes church community as compassionate, peaceful, and unified—qualities that have consistently welcomed her wherever her faith journey has taken her.

A native of San Francisco, Gloria was raised in a deeply Catholic Portuguese‑Spanish household where faith, service, and volunteerism were woven into daily life. Guided by the example of her mother and family, stewardship became not just something she did, but part of who she is. Her children were formed within Catholic education and parish life, further grounding her commitment to the Church and its mission.

Professionally, Gloria brings a rich background in advertising, design, publishing, and entrepreneurship. After a successful career in magazine publishing and nearly two decades running her own design and marketing business—recognized as Small Business of the Year in 2013—she felt called to reflect more deeply on purpose and vocation. That discernment led her to parish service in 2020, beginning with helping in the parish office and gradually expanding into broader ministry across St. Gabriel and Prince of Peace.

Gloria believes deeply that God places us where we are meant to be. Her lifelong skills in communication, creativity, and leadership now serve the Church through stewardship ministry—helping parishioners recognize their gifts and respond generously to God’s call.

Her hope is that Parish Family 52 continues to grow as a welcoming community where people encounter God, deepen their faith, and serve with joy.

Gloria is grateful to walk alongside others in this shared mission and believes that, together, we can accomplish far more than we imagine.
