You are cordially invited to join the St. Gabriel Parish Music Ministry Team! We are always looking for parishioners who want to share their musical talents and serve as a cantor, choir member, or the musicians who accompany them. There's a place for everyone, whether you want to sing and/or play - weekly, monthly, for holidays and special celebrations, or once a year - no long-term, lengthy commitment required! We love singing together, and our rehearsals are full of laughter and fellowship, as well as the work we put in to make our musical offerings worshipful and beautiful. We have the following opportunities for you to get involved:
Adult/Teen Choir
The Adult/Teen Choir sings for Feast Days (Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost), special celebrations, and various liturgies throughout the year. Rehearsals are on selected Sundays from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, and occasionally on a weeknight when necessary. There are additional rehearsals prior to Christmas and Holy Week/Easter. Currently, this choir rehearses on the first Sunday of the month from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, and sings on the second Sunday of the month at the 11:00 am Mass. All adults and students in middle school and high school are invited to participate. No audition is required.
Children's Choir
Students in kindergarten through fifth grade make up our wonderful Children's Choir. They sing at the 11:00 am Mass on the last Sunday of the month, October through May, on Christmas Eve, and other special liturgies throughout the year. Rehearsals are held during Catapult Religious Education classes on the Wednesday afternoon prior to the date they sing, and at 10:00 am on the mornings they sing. Song sheets and recordings are sent via email to families so that children can rehearse at home, whether or not they attend the in-person rehearsals.
Fil-Am Choir
This vibrant choir is comprised of members of our Filipino community and friends. The Fil-Am Choir sings at special Filipino celebrations throughout the year - Simbang Gabi in December, Flores de Mayo in May, and the Celebration of Filipino Saints in September. This choir has also been singing at the Mass on Christmas Day, and for other liturgical celebrations.
Cantors
Cantors must be confident soloists who have a basic knowledge of Catholic liturgy and music. Training and guidance are available for qualified candidates. Audition required.
Instrumentalists
If you play an instrument, we'd love to add you to our roster of musicians. There are a number of opportunities for you to play or fill in if a substitute accompanist is needed.
