Confirmation
Confirmation is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation within the Catholic Church. When a person is confirmed, the grace given at Baptism is completed by the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This completion prepares the person to actively participate as a Catholic (both during Mass and within society). Confirmation is the beginning of making your faith journey your own.

Youth Confirmation
Requirements:
- Be between 12-17 years old
- Submit Registration, birth certificate, Baptism, and First Communion Certificates
- Submit Sponsor Form
- Attend Confirmation Prep Program (cannot miss more than three classes without making up the material)
- Attend Confirmation Retreat or Intensives.
Adult Confirmation
Adults who are baptized Catholic wishing to complete the Sacrament of Confirmation are invited to participate in a preparation course that will enrich your spiritual life and complete your initiation into our beautiful faith. Come and learn more about scripture and tradition, as well as learn from the experiences of others.
Completing your initiation is ideal for those wanting to minister at the parish, prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage, serve as a godparent or sponsor, or are simply responding to the call of Jesus to follow him.
Guidelines for Godparents / Sponsors
From our Archdiocese of Seattle:
The sponsor is to take care that the person to be confirmed behaves as a true witness of Christ and faithfully fulfills the obligations that come with the sacrament:
- Be designated by the one who is to receive Confirmation, by his or her parents or the person who takes their place, or, in their absence, by the pastor or minister of the sacrament, and have the aptitude and intention of fulfilling this function.
- Have completed the sixteenth year of age, unless the pastor or minister of the sacrament has granted an exception for a just cause.
- Be a Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist and who leads a life of faith in keeping with the function to be taken on.
- Not be bound by any canonical penalty legitimately imposed or declared.
- Not be the father or mother of the one who is to receive the sacrament.
- Attend at least three Confirmation sessions with the person they are sponsoring.
The sponsor should be a practicing Catholic:
- Attending Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation
- Going to Confession at least once a year
- Receiving Communion at least once during the Easter season
- Observing the days of fasting
- Giving support to the Church
